Setting the Com Port in the Device Manager for Device Recognition
A window containing the image of a SCIO device and the serial # should appear at the 25% indicator when the Clasp32 program is loading. The appearance of this window ensures that the device is properly connected to your computer and and communicating with your software.
If this device recognition panel does not appear; The main reasons the EPFX/SCIO device is not connected to your computer–is that it is not turned on–is not connected to the right USB port– or the Device Manager settings are not set to Com 1..
• Make sure the device is connected and turned on before you double click on the Clasp32 icon on your desktop. If it is not turned on before Clasp32 loads to 25% it may not get detected. You will see the Green ON light on the face of the device as it gets its power through the USB cable but this does not necessarily mean it is properly communicating with the software. You must see the device recognition panel at the 25 % load mark that you will need to close. This confirms that all is well.
• You have not connected your device to the correct previously designated USB port.
• The Com Port must be assigned to Com1. See How Do I Install the USB Driver and Assign it to the Correct Com Port for the Clasp32?
• The correct Interface Type must be selected and assigned. See How Do I Install the Latest Version of Clasp32 Program On a Computer For the First Time
• If none of the above are evident then the correct driver has not been installed. If you have loaded the Clasp32 software on your own computer, the driver for the device must also be installed. (See “How to Install the USB Driver for The Clasp32 ”.)
If these things have already been done and your device just suddenly stops being detected there may be some other trouble shooting to do.
