Computer specifications to run the NEW software

COMPUTER SPECIFICATIONS  Downloadable PDF

The recommended choice for computer choices are laptops that are high-end systems from major manufacturers. The only benefit of having the software on a laptop is the portability. Desktop computers with high-end components are even more stable and are the better choice for an office environment.  Opt for the highest quality system that you can afford; a good quality computer and a large wide-screen monitor are well worth the investment.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT WINDOWS 10:  It is not advisable to update your current computer that is already currently running the Indigo software to the Win 10 O/S. You may end up with many complications with the software and have problems opening the software.  If you did this go to the Microsoft website to find out how to reverse it.  Microsoft gives you 30 days to revert back to your original O/S.

The 8 8 14 software will run on new computers with Win 10, but there are some minor glitches.

SPECIAL NOTES & TIPS

  1. If you are thinking of updating to the 8 8 14 software on an older XP computer it is not recommended.  It would really have to be high end that meets the specifications. XP is obsolete and there are no Microsoft windows updates for it.
  2. Make sure your computer is updated to the latest Windows Service packs available. Exception! …do not update Win 7 -8.1 to Win 10
  3. Be familiar with how to access your internet and have all the windows updates up to date, an AntiVirus software installed (beware of conflicts). Get rid of default browsers that are inclined to bring junk and pop up ads. Prepare a windows browser using I/E or Mozilla Firefox and make sure these are up to date. The software is now updated and activated through the internet.
  4. It is advisable to have at least three USB 2.0 Ports (Newer computers have 3.0 and should be reverse compatible).
  5. You will need Microsoft Word or Open Office Suite Software Program (according to your preference)
  6. Avoid RAID Hard drives as the computer serial number can’t be consistently ‘read’ by the BHO activation system so the activation of the software will not ‘hold’.  This may be something you need to specifically ask an expert to make sure the computer is not set up that way with a RAID Drive.
  7. Printer Software (default printer choice), antivirus protection, firewall settings and certain picture software like Kodak and Canon can potentially cause conflicts or issues with the software or installation process.
  8. PLEASE NOTE:  MAC’s are not supported by the developers of the software and thus it is not a recommendation from Support Central.  We also do not support the software running on Parallels or Virtual Windows Machines.  Practitioners do this at their own discretion and, as this support desk supports the device software and not Windows, or another program causing conflicts with the device software. Using these alternative windows on computers with other O/S may cause problems getting online to do updates and activation’s.

SCREEN RESOLUTION

Pay attention to this specification as it is very important for having the full visual range to see everything on the screen. A resolution of 1600 x 900 is the absolute minimum required to see all areas of the SCIO, Indigo and Eductor software programs.

Laptop / Notebook: 15.4” or better Wide Screen – 1280 x 1024 Screen Resolution

Desktop: 17” Flat Panel Display – 1280 x 1024 Screen Resolution (A resolution of 1680 x 1050 or higher preferred)

DVD ROM or DVD/RW Drive

Mainly because the software comes on a disc, but things are moving more to flash drives as well

AVOID a Raid Hard Drive. Ask an expert to make sure the computer is not set up with a RAID Hard Drive.

GRAPHICS / VIDEO CARD

512MB – 2GB GDDR3 VRAM   Dedicated or Discrete Graphics AMD Radeon or Intel.

INTERNET ACCESS

Good High Speed internet access is required as Software downloads and Technical support is now mostly done through remote internet connections to your computer. Most computers now come with 2 or 3 means of connecting to the internet (Wi-Fi, LAN, WLAN and RJ11) Most are using a DSL connection through a telephone company or a Cable Network through the local cable television company.

Note: Dial-Up or Satellite internet access is not recommended.

ANTI VIRUS PROTECTION

Be sure to install adequate Anti Virus protection. Windows Defender provides Spyware and Anti-Virus protection which comes already installed on Win 8 – Win10 and just needs to be engaged on the computer.
