How Do I Install the USB Driver and Assign it to the Correct Com Port for the Clasp32?

USB cable

If you have a SCIO device that is no longer being recognized by the software and you havent changed anythign or done an update etc., then check the possibility of the cable needing to be replaced.  Some practitioners are reporting that it is very difficult to find USB to USB cables anymore.  They are becoming obsolete and many electronics stores aren’t carrying them anymore.  At time of writing this was one place they could still be found;

The cord you want is a USB, A type male to A type male cord 10U2-02106 grey or black

Make sure you are using the same USB port you always have.  Run the checks below to see if its being properly detected (read).  If not then try a different Port.

You can check the Device Manager to see that it is reading that the device is connected.  If you see Ports (Com and LPT) under the Device manager menu (device must be connected)  then the cable and device are being detected.  Then you can check  the Com Port # setting to see if it is assigned to Com Port 1 (it needs to be assigned to 1 for the software to recognize).  Sometimes diong this and restting the interface Type is what is needed.  So you can try these things before resorting to reinstalling the drivers.

 USB to Serial Cable

Here is a link to getting a new USB to Serial cable that will work with Win 8

Has to be USB-A to serial cable.

The Gigaware cable itself MUST be compatible for Win 8  You cant just use a Gigaware cable and load Win 8 drivers for it.  It wont work.  Here are the instructions for the gigaware driver that is supposed to be a fix

•After getting the cable and connecting it, download and unpack Profilic_Win8_x64_x86.zip.

•Install the driver via .ini file.

•Go to the device manager Win+Pause or Win+X (in Windows 8) and select your USB-to-Serial device. •Select “Update Driver Software…” from the context menu.

•Select “Browse my computer for driver software” and “Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer” in the dialogue.

•Select the Prolific driver version 3.3.2 from 2008.

After the driver has been installed plug one end of the USB cable into the USB port on the back of the SCIO device and the other end into a USB Port in your computer.  At this point the device can remain off, but will need it on to assign the com port. (This is now the port that will become configured for your device so you will always need to plug the SCIO device into this same USB Port.)
