You can tell you are in Demo Mode if you open the software program and the Password screen has a different appearance. You may see a different background image and the button placement looks different. The “Test” button will not be bold and can’t be clicked even after completing the Demographics and Calibration. This means your system has reverted to Demo Mode and requires that you reactivate.
Before attempting to reactivate please be aware of the following possible reasons this may happen;
- Make sure the device is turned on, connected to the correct USB port and being recognized at 25% as the software is launching.
- You may have been using the software without the device connected and ran out of Virtual Use sessions. You can only run 50 sessions like this, until you are required to attach/connect and make sure the device is being recognized at 25% and you will be able to reactivate the software. This resets the Virtual Use and it wont countdown again unless you again use it without the device detected or connected.
- In some software versions you may get a message about an incorrect serial # or the need to enter a valid serial # If you see this and are required to enter a valid serial # be very careful and make sure you enter it in the edit field EXACTLY as it is (usually SX and 10 digits SX0000000000). The edit field will appear again a second time. It will be the same prompt (making you think that it was entered incorrectly) but you just need to make sure you enter it 2 times accurately. Failure to do so and writing the same thing twice, may write a “new” serial # to the system and you will have to contact BHO/QX to try and get this fixed. As of 2009-2010 software you can only use one device per computer. If the previous scenario happened to you and you entered the wrong serial # twice you will have “written” another device to the system by accident
IF YOU ATTEMPT TO CONNECT ANOTHER DEVICE TO YOUR COMPUTER, OR YOU MADE A MISTAKE TRYING TO ENTER THE DEVICE SERIAL # YOU WILL BE PROMPTED TO DEACTIVATE THE PREVIOUS DEVICE. YOU NEED TO BE CAREFUL HERE.
IF YOU KNOW YOU DID NOT CONNECT A DIFFERENT DEVICE YOU WILL NOT WANT TO AGREE TO THIS. IF YOU DO THIS YOU COULD DEACTIVATE THE ORIGINAL DEVICE ASSIGNED. THIS WILL MEAN THAT YOU MAY HAVE TO REACTIVATE AND COULD POSSIBLY BE PROMOTED TO PAY THE ACTIVATION FEE AGAIN.
If there is still a problem with the serial number or you have connected a different device you might get a message something like “Another device has already been activated. Do you wish to deactivate and use this new device?” If you click “Yes” to the message you will be prompted to activate again. If you ever get that message and have NOT connected another device or adjusted the serial # close the program and do the following;
RESET THE INTERFACE TYPE:
Enter the serial number and select the device type;
- Click Start / All Programs
- Locate Clasp32 on the list and Click or right Click (XP) to reveal the Menu options
- Click Interface Type
- Enter the SCIO serial number starting with a capital letter SX and the 10 digits using this format SX0000000000
- Click Load Number
- Select the device type ie. SCIO USB to USB by clicking the radio button below the image.
- Click Ok

Reenter the program and click Password. Once inside the Password screen click Activation / Internet and enter the Username (email address) and Password. Click Send to Server This should get you activated again. You should not have to pay a fee unless you clicked “Yes” as mentioned in the explanation about the prompt for deactivating. A fee is required for updating the software or connecting a different device.
NOTE: Sometimes the UAC still shows as if it is set to Never Notify, but if you have reverted to DEMO MODE and you are being requested to pay the activation fee when you attempt to reactivate you can try the following (usually only older software on Win 7). It may have gotten turned back on accidentally and may be falsely displaying so it is worth trying this. Turn the UAC back On (middle setting) and then reboot the computer then turn it OFF again (set to Never Notify) and reboot the computer again to see if you can get it out of Demo Mode by reactivating. If you have the computer set up for two users this will also cause complications as the UAC will always have to be off for both users. Avoid this scenario and spare yourself the frustration.
